Being positioned number 1 means ultimate placement... Right?... Well, no this is not always the case, especially when PPC marketing with Google Adwords. Being positioned number 1 means ultimate placement... Right?... Well, no this is not always the case, especially when PPC marketing with Google Adwords. Just because you rank in the number 1 position does not mean most people will click on your ad. Often they will click on lower placed more relevant ads.

This is great news for you because it means you can save a ton of money on your bids.

Now, if that isn't good enough, then get this... There is often a significant gap between the bid prices paid for first, second or third position bids for Google pay-per-click ads.

This is a good cash saving technique; Let your competitors fork out top dollar to rank number 1 to 3. By practicing this method you will not only save cash on your PPC costs, but you could possibly end up getting more traffic by being further down the list of search results.

Use the Google keyword tool in your Adwords account to figure out the top bids for the keywords you are using. The fastest way is to start with a bid of $50 in the search box, you will then see what price the bids are in position 1 to 3 (unless position 1 to 3 have a higher keyword bid than $50), then adjust the bid search amount accordingly to see the bid price vs ad position. Keep entering the next lowest bid to see how much you must bid to be fourth or sixth on the list. Then bid this amount. Youll save a lot of money this way.... simple yet cool stuff :)

Another thing that will help you get better results with your Google Adwords campaigns is to study your competition. If you are using pay-per-click to advertise an affiliate program and someone else is competing with you, study their landing pages. If they are running their ad on a regular basis, then that means whatever they are doing is obviously working (either that or they are really, really stupid), so you should study what they are doing.

Don't waste time by researching your competition and niche manually. You can, but you should be using one of the many PPC tools that are available to save you time and money. One of the latest and greatest PPC spy tools is Google Cash Detective 2, this one tool has been responsible for helping me recognize and set up profitable campaigns right off the bat. I can't start a new Pay Per Clicks campaign without it.

Using a tool like Google Cash Detective 2 you can easily recognize what your competition is doing: Are they using a pre-sell page or are they direct linking to the product landing page?

This is where you usually can separate the amateurs from the pros. Affiliate marketers who stay in the game have learned to use squeeze pages to capture contact information to build that all-important list.

The number of people that buy the first time they turn up to your site... well let's just say... not so many! Follow-up is therefore vital to converting your pay-per-click traffic. On average, they say it takes up to 7 contacts before people purchase.

If you don't use a squeeze page to capture leads, then you cannot follow them up with future offers and products. By direct linking you could potentially be missing out on hundreds maybe thousands of dollars per year. Getting contact information is not a hard thing to do, and could really make the difference to your online business.

So there you have a few simple strategies to start you off on the right foot. enjoy!
