If you have created a product and now are looking for ways to market it, utilizing an affiliate network is a very effective approach. Working with an affiliate program is one of the easiest ways to get your product quickly into the market in front of buyers. The alternative would be to create an affiliate network on your own.

Or, if you're just getting started, you may have the independent spirit that tells you to do it for yourself or not to do it at all. In either case, you can start your own affiliate program to market your products on the internet. Let's look at how it can be done.

You first need to do the research and figure out which websites may have the type of visitors that would purchase your product. You don't want to find websites selling piano strings when you are selling Beads. That obviously would not be a good fit. It's all about creating a list of similar sites that would compliment what you are selling.

Instead, make a list of websites that are in your similar market. For example, target websites in the beauty industry if you are selling makeup. If you create an e-book showing women the proper way to apply makeup, you would also want to target and make a list of websites that are mainly visited by women. These will all be potential affiliates for you.

The next step is to draft a carefully written sales letter that you will mail out to your list. Your sales letter will be the first impression each of the site owners on your list will see. Make sure you have some body proof read it. Include all the key selling points and also include what you will pay your affiliates in commissions. The more sales letters you send out the better the chance for you to build a big affiliate network.

Once you've signed on some affiliate marketers, you'll need affiliate software to keep track of the sales generated, and how much commission you need to pay. Then you will be responsible for cutting the commission checks and sending them out.

Many marketers who develop there own products will hire a company to track their affiliates sales for them. this alternative method can free up your time to develop more products or just reduce your work load. There is no right or wrong way. Your decision should be based on your particular situation.

No matter which way you choose, running your own affiliate marketing operation to sell your products will give you the control over where and how the advertisements are placed, and over who will be directing traffic to your site. Be aware, though, that this is more work than having an affiliate program run it for you. But if you know what you want, this is how it's done.
