Being a successful pay per click marketer is a tough challenge. For every person making thousands a day with PPC, there are probably a hundred more who are probably losing money. It is really not that hard to launch a PPC campaign, but it is much tougher to create a profitable one.

To succeed with pay per click, you need to take the time to do the appropriate research. There are several different aspects of a successful pay per click campaign and you need to pay attention to each to succeed. Fail to do the appropriate work for one step, and your campaign will be a failure before it even begins.

The first step of the process is to figure out what product you would like to sell. To start, come up with a list of 15 or so topics you would be excited about promoting. You will spend a lot of time researching the topic and product, so make sure its interesting enough that you wont quit in the middle.

Once you have your list, you can now choose your specific product. There are many sites on the net that allow you to sell affiliate products. I would suggest looking at some of the bigger sites to start, like Commission Junction, Clickbank, and maybe Linkshare. All have thousands of products to sell, so pick one that fits your niche.

Performing keyword research is the next step. You can use a paid tool like Wordze or Keyword Elite, but I like to use a free one called the Google Adwords Keyword Tool. To use it, just enter in keywords related to your topic and it will return you a longer list of related long tail keywords. Not all keywords are profitable though, so you will need to refine this list down and try to only add keywords that a searcher might type in with an intent to buy.

Now you will want to design a landing page for your product. A landing page is the site that potential customers will visit when they click on your ad. You want it to be compelling and persuasive so that it gets your visitors into a buying state of mind. If you don't have the skills to create one yourself, you can find many companies on online that will create one for you for a fee.

Once you are done with that, you are ready to setup your actual PPC campaign. The most popular pay per click advertiser is Google Adwords. By using them, you will be getting the most eyeballs to to your ads and thus the most visitors. Once you gain more experience, you can try other advertisers like MSN Adcenter and Yahoo Search marketing.

When creating your campaign, you will need to come up with some ads. Your ads need to be super targeted to your keywords so they match what the searchers are looking for. Your ad text should also be written in a way that catches the visitors eye. Using techniques like social proof or writing catchy headlines work very well. A high ad click through rate is one of the most important parts of a successful campaign, so make sure you create at least a couple of ads and continually test which ad performs the best.

By following these simple steps, you should be able to launch a profitable PPC campaign. Once you've done that, you will need to continuously test and optimize your campaigns to squeeze the most profit out of them. Remember, the more campaigns you launch, the better you will get at it.
