If you are thinking of getting involved with affiliate selling, or even if you are a little more experienced, you may feel that your huge, ugly affiliate link is getting in your way. Not only is it too long for practical use in many contexts, you are also banned from using it in many instances. Here are some incredibly simple tips for earning money through the use of redirects. A redirect is where you use a URL to point to another URL. You can easily set it up through your webhost. Godaddy, which I use, has a panel whereby you simply plug in the URL you want your domain name to point to. It takes mere seconds. Here's an example. Let's say you own the domain name, www.myknitwear.com, and you are using it to promote a knitwear affiliate program. (That's not a live link, by the way!) Through your webhost, you should be able to fix it so that your domain, in this case, www.myknitwear.com, points to your affiliate link. The potential customer who clicks on www.myknitwear.com is taken directly to the affiliate page, which is where you want them to go. This way, you don't have t use your enormously long affiliate link. This makes you look a whole lot more professional. Do you see where this is going? You can have your domain point to any website you want! Now let's explore what this flexibility gains for the affiliate marketer. 1. Are you a great writer? If you do, you may know already that good article directories won't let you put an affiliate link into an article. They are right, too: the whole point of an article directory is to furnish good content, not to create a platform for sales pitches. But you can still use articles to promote an affiliate product if you use a redirect. Provided your top level domain (which has the format "www.mysite.com", .net, .org or whatever), is actually relevant to your niche and your article, you should be fine. Don't EVER use a free hosting service. Otherwise, your top level domain will include the webhost's name. You just end up looking like a cheapskate. 2. A funny thing happened on the way to the forum! Some forums restrict how you may promote yourself and your product. Forums are about exchange of information, not sales. So, show good manners and use a redirect to take readers who want to know more about your product or niche to the appropriate affiliate page. Earning money through forums can be incredibly effective, but you must learn to be subtle about it. Be too brash and you will make yourself unwelcome. 3. Changing horses Suppose you get tired of promoting a particular product, and you no longer wish to be an affiliate reseller of that product, but a different one instead. But you have your affiliate link plastered all over the web! Not a problem if you used a redirect to begin with. When you want to change products (within the same niche, of course), you just go back to your webhost and change the "target URL" of your redirect. Now, you can redirect to a different product, and the change is reflected everywhere on the web you have placed your domain name. See how elegant that is? 4. You've decided to blow your own trumpet. At a more advanced stage, you may want to stop promoting an affiliate product altogether, and promote your own product instead. A redirect is a great tool here. When it is time to launch your product, and you have got your sales page up, you just switch the "target URL" of your redirect to your own sales page. The change is reflected everywhere on the web. Now... all the sales are yours! You're not sharing with some other affiliate vendor. It's very, very cheap to purchase your own domain names. Any reputable webhost will help you search out unused, relevant domain names. You may be pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to come up with good, new domain names. It just takes a little imagination. For those of us in affiliate selling, a good redirect is like a good jacket that never goes out of style. Earning money through redirects is simple and cost effective because of it's ease and flexibility. More information: Want to start earning money through affiliate reselling?
