Useless Tactics: Free for all sites: These don't work because no one is really reading your offer. The other submitters are like you, and just want to promote there offer. The only people going to these sites is people selling something. Think about it. How many times have you gone to one of these sites to shop. Email Spamming: Don't do it! You can get yourself in a lot of trouble. If someone reports you, your ISP or web host can shut your account down. It's not only illegal, it's annoying to others. No one is going to buy from people who send them junk mail. Most likely, the spam filters will just stop the message from ever being seen. Push Button Website Creators: How many people waste money on this type of system? Save yourself some time and money and stay away from these. If it were that easy, the owner of the software would be doing it, not selling the system to you. Buying The Latest Money Making Programs: Too many people get suckered into buying every piece of junk that hits the market. Most of these programs don't work. Save your money. Tactics That Work: Pay Per Click: This drives targeted traffic to your website. The only problem is that it's too expensive for most. You might spend $500.00 on clicks and only make $300.00 in sales. Not for most people, especially those just starting out in online marketing. Social Site Marketing: This method can work but takes a lot of time to implement. First you have to sign up to digg or reddit or another social network and then you have to post on a regular basis so as not to look like a spammer. If you would like to try a social network, Squiddo or Hubpages work well. These are high traffic websites and you may pick up some extra visitors. Don't just slap up any junk though. Spend some time and make a good page. My Favorite Method Of Getting Backlinks and Traffic: Article Marketing: This is the method I use to get quality backlinks and targeted traffic to my website. Why are these links so good? They are one-way links. Google gives these links the most weight. If you get enough one-way links, your website will rise in the search engines. Plus, you'll get direct traffic from the article directories themselves. Take some time to write a good article about your topic. Submit it to the top ten article directories and repeat. How do you find the best article directories to submit to? Type "top 10 article directories" or "best article directories" in your favorite search engine. Many websites maintain a list of all the top article directories. Besides submitting the big article directories, you should also try to find niche article directories related to your topic. The more targeted the publisher compared to your website, the better. If you run a health website, then submit to health article directories. Write and submit at least one to three articles per week. This will pay off in the long run and get you lots of quality backlinks and traffic.
