When it comes to general information you are looking up where exactly would you start looking? Do you look in books, magazines, libraries or on the internet? Well, if you are looking for a rare piece of information I would suggest your library since they would have most everything they have already in there local computer system.

After all, the library has a lot of books and should be able to help you. I really like the aroma of the books that are from a long time ago, I like ti imagine going back to that time when I read the books.

But, lets get down to the best tools you can use and that is the information super highway which is the internet. It could easily take you 200 lifetimes and you still would not be able to put a dent into all of the information that is on the net now and is coming on the net daily. Start trying to find information on what you are searching for at public domain sites and government sites. Also, try some of the many other specific search engines that could help you that are on your topic as well.

Do you have any idea what type of info your trying to uncover? Like the format of the information? Some want MP3's or PDF's. Yet others want Doc files or Power Point Presentations or maybe an excel spreadsheet? There are also maps, guides, directories and all of them are more then likely on your subject your attempting to locate.

So, what I am getting at really is you need a game plan to get research done really. You need to map out exactly what it is you are trying to find, what format you want it in like I outlined above. You need to know what you want to do with the information once you do find it.

It may seem like I am asking you for the moon here but I am not really. Research is not easy if you are doing it correctly. ;-) I should also point out that once you start with the general information and make your way down to something more specific that is what we call a Niche.

Drilling down to a specific niche is really what you want to do. So start out broad and keep narrowing down your focus until you get exactly what it is that you are looking for. You will be happy that you did just that once you find the information it is that you are looking for.

Personally, you may be wondering who am I? Well, I have been on the information gathering / research related file for about 15+ years now. I can and have researched more then I care to mention. It has brought me a vast amount of knowledge on many subjects and I would not trade it for the world. The steps above should help you obtain what your trying to discover or at least put you on the correct path to getting the information you seek. Without the above steps time will fly by as you go from website to website without so much as a single plan of action.
