For professional applications you will require an in-depth and thorough understanding of the entire Adobe Web Creative Suite. This includes (but is by no means restricted to) Flash and Action Script. If your goal is to become an Adobe Certified Professional or an Adobe Certified Expert you'll find these skills are vital. To become a well-rounded web professional however, you'll have to get more diverse knowledge. You'll need to bolt on programming skills like HTML, PHP and database engines like MySQL. A working knowledge of E-Commerce and Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) will also improve your CV and employability. The age-old way of teaching, utilising reference manuals and books, is an up-hill struggle for the majority of us. Learning psychology studies show that memory is aided when we involve as many senses as possible, and we take action to use what we've learned. Interactive audio-visual materials involving demonstration and virtual lab's will beat books every time. And they're a lot more fun to do. It would be silly not to view some of the typical study materials provided before you hand over your cheque. You should expect instructor demonstrations, video tutorials and interactive audio-visual sections with practice modules. It is generally unwise to choose training that is only available online. Due to the variable nature of connection quality from your average broadband company, you should always obtain disc based courseware (On CD or DVD). Don't forget: the actual training program or an accreditation is not what you're looking for; the job or career that you want to end up in is. Many trainers unfortunately put too much weight in the qualification itself. Imagine training for just one year and then end up doing the job for 20 years. Avoid the mistake of taking what may be a program of interest to you and then put 10-20 years into a job you don't like! Prioritise understanding what industry will expect from you. Which particular exams you'll be required to have and how you'll build your experience level. It's also worth spending time setting guidelines as to how far you think you'll want to get as it will force you to choose a particular set of qualifications. Prior to embarking on a study programme, trainees are advised to talk through specific job needs with a skilled professional, to ensure the study program covers all the necessary elements. A proficient and specialised advisor (vs a salesperson) will talk through your current experience level and abilities. This is paramount to calculating the point at which you need to start your studies. With a little live experience or qualifications, you could discover that your appropriate starting-point is now at a different level to a new student. If this is your opening attempt at studying for an IT examination then you should consider whether to cut your teeth on some basic Microsoft package and Windows skills first. Authorised simulation materials and exam preparation packages are vital - and really must be offered by your training provider. Students regularly can get confused by trying to prepare themselves with questions that aren't recognised by the authorised examining boards. Often, the phraseology can be completely unlike un-authorised versions and you need to be ready for this.
