Realizing who is most likely to buy your products or join your downline (your target market) is the number one rule to successful MLM prospecting. The people that will be most likely to buy into joining your downline, or most likely to buy your opportunity's products is called your target market. Your MLM opportunity has two different target markets. The first group, or target market, is the group of people that are most likely to spend money on your company's vitamins, energy drink, education material, software, or whatever. The second target market, in relation to your business, would be the group of people that would be most likely to join your downline as a business builder The people in this target market are those that have the best chance of producing for you in your downline. Now this may go against a lot of what you've been taught about building your business, but you must understand that each of these two target markets consist of two entirely separate groups of people. Now finding people that will join your downline and produce volume for you is likely how you get paid the most by your company. So let's focus on defining who would be the best prospect for you to sponsor in order to make the most money from your business. Now as an example, if you were trying to put together the best possible NFL team, where would you start scouting for possible prospects? Would you start at the corner of the busiest intersection in town, and see who showed interest in being a pro athlete? What about would you make a list of your circle of influence and start inviting them to a get together at your local hotel about becoming a pro athlete? How about would you try to get your FedEx guy, Red Robin waiter, or even complete strangers to try your "products"such as a team helmet? And if they told you they liked how your "product" felt, and that they even liked wearing it, would you then try to convince them that the smart thing for them to do would be to become a pro NFL player on your team since they could make a lot of money just by doing what they already enjoy - wearing your product? I know this sounds stupid, because if you used any of the tactics I just mentioned for prospecting for your team you would have the worst team ever to play professional ball. I have no doubt that your team would never win any games at all. But as crazy as it may seem to prospect for NFL players this way, think about this: 97% of people fail in network marketing because they do the exact same thing. They spend their time hounding your friends and family, buying opportunity leads, and handing out product samples, which only brings the wrong people into their opportunity (or nobody at all). The secret to putting together a successful pro football team is to recruit proven athletes, not newbies. Pro scouts spend their time analyzing the skills and stats of college athletes and then decide who would be the best fit for their team. Wasting time on recruiting an athlete that hasn't proven they can be a good addition to their team would be crazy. The reality is that building a winning downline is the same thing as building a winning football team. You must recruit proven producers, not newbies. Which means you must recruit other network marketerspeople that have proven themselves to be successful in this industry. Trying to coax people into your business by claiming that they can "make a lot of money marketing travel packages" is just as much of a waste of time as NFL scouts trying to build a team by asking "who wants to make a lot of money as an NFL player". No doubt a lot of people would want to, but very few will be qualified. Prospecting anyone else will simply end in failure, with no success to show for it. So if you're losing money in your business, and if the reps you sponsor don't produce, now you know why. The simple solution is to start prospecting other network marketers and proven producers.
