With the way things are economically today you may be especially sensitive to the amount of money you plan to spend on your wedding. With some careful planning however you can still have the wedding you always dreamed about. "Thinking out the box" can result in a fabulous wedding at much lower cost than you may think. I will try and present some basic advice that you can use to get what you want at the price you want. * Dont use floral arrangements as your reception centerpieces. Lets face it, flowers are expensive. They are beautiful but very costly. Think of other ways to decorate your tables. If your venue allows candles then a bowl filled with water and a floating candle makes a very attractive centerpiece at a very low cost. You can use the flat candle bowls or go to the dollar store and get the small fishbowls. * Make your own wedding invitations instead of having them printed. There are lots of websites that will enable you to print your own invitations. Again go to your favorite search engine and type in do it yourself wedding invitations. You will be shocked at what a beautiful invitation you can do yourself. * Get one of your friends to become a minister. A quick search online will disclose a ton of places that will certify you as a minister for a small fee. * Look at alternatives to buying an expensive guestbook. Head to a local hobby store and look at similar items that are much less expensive. Even consider a coffee table book. * Get your list of wedding supplies and head to the local rental store. See how many items you can rent instead of buying. A lot of reception items can be rented such as linens, punch bowls, tables and chairs. * Set up large decorative jars or bowls full of candy at your exit doors. These make a wonderful alternative to wedding favors. Just have a small table with the bowl and a scoop and some small paper cups so your guests can enjoy them as they leave. * Check and see how many items you can borrow. A lot of your family and friends have been married and may have bought and kept some of their items. See what they have and do not be afraid to ask if you can borrow it for your wedding. * Dont get a multi-tiered wedding cake. Get a smaller cake or even cupcakes for your guests. These usually can be bought cheaper at your local bakery. * Enlist your friends to be your photographer. With the digital cameras today find a friend who has a knack for taking pictures and ask if they would act as your wedding photographer. Also find a friend to shoot the wedding video. * Shop around and haggle to get a lower cost venue. Also see if any friends have sufficient property that can host a wedding and a reception. Even consider a state park. Try to have your wedding in mid afternoon. This is when people are least hungry and instead of a full meal have a table full of snacks and munchies. This will more than satisfy most guests. I hope that at least some the tips will allow you to have the wedding you want at the price you budgeted. Remember your wedding day will probably be the most special day of your life. Treat it as such. More information: Juanita Allmon is a noted wedding planner and has many helpful hints at her website.
